Columbus lit up with pride, culture, and unity as Mayor Andrew Ginther took center stage at the city’s Africa Day 2025 Celebration, delivering a speech that echoed through the hearts of hundreds in attendance—and reverberated across the city.
Standing before a sea of vibrant colors, traditional attire, and joyous celebration, Mayor Ginther honored the African diaspora’s enduring contributions to Columbus, Ohio, and beyond. His words weren’t just ceremonial—they were a rallying cry, a recognition of heritage, and a tribute to the resilience, brilliance, and potential of Africans living in the city.
> “Africa stands as a continent of unparalleled beauty, resilience, and legacy,” the Mayor declared. “Its influence reaches every corner of the globe… carried by a diaspora defined by strength, perseverance, and wisdom.”
The celebration, held in honor of Africa Day, was more than a cultural event—it was a powerful reminder of the transformative impact Africans have had on the city’s growth and identity.
From entrepreneurs and educators to artists, scientists, and community advocates, Mayor Ginther highlighted how the African community continues to “inspire, uplift, and lead” in every corner of Columbus.

The event featured a lively marketplace, soulful music, powerful speeches, and cuisine from across the continent. But it was the mayor’s heartfelt address that left the deepest impression. He acknowledged Africa not merely as a contributor, but as a cornerstone of the city’s social and economic vibrancy.
> “Throughout every chapter of history, the African story has been one of innovation, strength, and limitless potential… in classrooms, in advocacy, on the playing field and beyond,” Ginther said.
He also reaffirmed Columbus’ commitment to strengthening its relationship with Africa, especially through the Sister City partnership with Accra, Ghana. This diplomatic and cultural connection continues to open doors for trade, education, healthcare, and civic collaboration—bridging the gap between local communities and global impact.Mayor Ginther closed his speech with a vision rooted in unity:
> “Let us move forward together, grounded in the strength of our past, inspired by the promise of the present, and united in building a future full of hope, opportunity, and shared pride.”
As the Africa Day festivities drew to a close, one truth was unmistakable: the African heartbeat is alive and thriving in Columbus—and the city is stronger for it.
