Yaw Yeboah to Depart Columbus Crew at Year-End

Published:

Ghanaian midfielder Yaw Yeboah is set to part ways with Columbus Crew as his contract concludes at the end of December. The Ohio-based club opted not to exercise the extra-year option on his deal following the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Despite this decision, the 27-year-old remains eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Process, potentially keeping him within the league.

“Forever a Champion. Thank you, Yaw, for your time in Black & Gold. We wish you the best in your next chapter,” the Crew shared in a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter).

Yeboah joined Columbus Crew in 2022 on a two-year contract with an additional one-year option from Polish top-flight side Wisła Kraków. During his tenure, he etched his name into the club’s history, notably scoring the decisive goal in the 2023 Major League Soccer final, securing a third MLS Cup for the Crew.

The Ghanaian forward will be remembered for his winning goal in the first half as Columbus Crew beat holders LAFC 2-1 and won their third Major League Soccer Cup title in 2023.

However, the midfielder faced challenges in maintaining his stellar form during the 2024 season. Reduced to a substitute role in many regular-season games, Yeboah made 24 appearances, tallying one goal and three assists. His contributions fell short of his previous season’s impact, and he was absent during the playoffs as Columbus bowed out to eventual Eastern Conference champions, the New York Red Bulls.

Yaw Yeboah won two trophies with the Columbus Crew: the 2023 MLS Cup and the 2024 Leagues Cup

A former Manchester City prospect, Yeboah’s future in professional soccer remains promising. With the MLS Re-Entry Process in play, fans may yet see him continue to make his mark within the league.

Yaw Yeboah becomes the 3rd Ghanaian International to leave the Crew in a space of 5 years. Former captain and defender of the Crew Jonathan Mensah and left back Afful Harrison had earlier left the club.
